Ray Garcia-Morales

Principal Ray Garcia-Morales is a dedicated educational leader with over 25 years of experience in the field of education, with a focus on student success, equity, and school transformation. He has held several key roles throughout his career, including Assistant Principal at Tyee High School, Cleveland High School, and Principal at Chief Sealth International High School. His leadership has consistently been centered on creating environments that support students' academic and emotional growth. He believes that schools should be places where students succeed academically and feel safe, valued, and supported in all aspects of their development.

As Principal at Chief Sealth International High School, Ray led efforts to improve school culture and student outcomes. His leadership was focused on fostering a positive and inclusive environment where all students felt they had the resources and support necessary to excel. Under his guidance, the school saw improvements in academic achievement, student engagement, and community involvement. His approach to leadership is built on his belief that education is not just about academics but also about supporting the whole child—mentally, socially, and emotionally.

Ray’s professional background includes a wide range of roles, beginning in 2004 as a School Social Worker at the Bronx High School for Writing and Communication Arts. In this position, he advocated for student needs, managed academic and social-emotional portfolios, and supported mental health initiatives. His work in New York laid the foundation for his belief in addressing both academic performance and students' social-emotional well-being. After his time in New York, Ray continued his career at Cleveland High School, where he worked as a School Social Worker before transitioning into administration.

In 2011, Ray began his journey into school leadership as Principal Intern, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal at Tyee High School. His work there focused on strengthening school culture and creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students. He then returned to Cleveland High School as Assistant Principal, where he worked to improve student safety and foster academic rigor. His work at Cleveland High School laid the groundwork for his successful tenure as Principal at Chief Sealth International High School, where he continued to build upon his leadership experience to improve student success further.

In addition to his work in education, Ray co-founded Rebels & Scholars, a clothing brand focused on social justice and community engagement. Through this business, he helped raise awareness for undocumented students, offered scholarships, and created opportunities for community interaction. While Ray eventually stepped away from the brand to focus on his role as a principal, his work with Rebels & Scholars remains an integral part of his legacy.

Ray is also deeply committed to community service, volunteering with organizations such as El Centro de la Raza, YouthCare, and the Latino Community Fund. He continues to support various local initiatives, contributing both financially and in-kind to improve the community's well-being. His ongoing volunteer work with the Union Gospel Mission and the Washington State Department of Corrections reflects his dedication to mental health and community support.

As a Seattle native, Ray Garcia-Morales is inspired by the region’s natural beauty, which fuels his passion for service and education. His career has been shaped by his commitment to ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to succeed, and he continues to advocate for educational equity and student success in every community he serves.
